Technician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, maintenance,
and installation of marine generators on a variety of boats and
yachts. Must possess strong mechanical and electrical skills, be
proficient in troubleshooting complex systems, and adhere to safety
standards. The Generator Technician will work independently and as
part of a team to ensure that generators are operating efficiently
and reliably. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Diagnose
malfunctions in marine generators using diagnostic tools and
equipment. Perform routine maintenance on generators, including oil
changes, filter replacements, and system checks. Repair or replace
defective parts, such as alternators, starters, fuel pumps, and
control modules. Troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, control
panels, and circuit breakers. Install new generators on boats and
yachts, ensuring proper alignment, fuel connections, and electrical
wiring. Test generators under load to verify performance and
identify potential issues. Keep accurate records of all work
performed, including parts used and labor hours. Communicate
effectively with customers and other service personnel to explain
repairs and recommendations. Adhere to all safety procedures and
regulations, including proper handling of hazardous materials.
Maintain a clean and organized work area. Stay up-to-date on the
latest generator technology and repair techniques. Provide
occasional support to other service areas as needed. Requirements:
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Proven
experience as a generator technician, preferably in the marine
industry (minimum 2 years preferred). Strong knowledge of generator
systems, including mechanical, electrical, and fuel systems.
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment. Ability to
read and interpret technical manuals and wiring diagrams. Excellent
troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong
communication and customer service skills. Certifications from
generator manufacturers (e.g., Kohler, Westerbeke, Onan) a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up
to 50 lbs). Ability to work in confined spaces and awkward
positions. Ability to work outdoors in hot and humid conditions.
