Summary

These positions are located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Sugarcane Production Research Unit with vacancies in Canal Point, Florida.

The incumbent performs a range of duties necessary for the maintenance, appearance, upkeep, and safety considerations of all buildings and grounds.

This is a term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 4 years.

Responsibilities

* Lays seed cane into the furrows and cuts cane stalks into short seed pieces. * Cuts samples of sugarcane stalks and loads them on trucks or trailer wagons. * Recalls and follows directions, sequences, etc. * Applies a knowledge of the equipment and tools used in order to work safely, avoid accidents, and finish the work properly. * Drives forklift to push/pull carts into/from hangar. * Loads/unloads very heavy items onto weight-handling devices. * Uses computers on a regular basis to complete trainings or timesheets.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement:

06/01/2021 Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. The responses to the questionnaire and your resume should be in significant detail to provide the person rating your application with a good understanding of your ability to do the job, technical knowledge, work, and training experience, etc. (For example You must have the ability to perform the duties of a, Laborer without more than normal supervision (Screen Out)). Applicants who do not meet the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT will not be given further consideration.

Physical Effort:

Heavy physical effort is required when lifting and carrying sugarcane stalk samples weighing up to 80 pounds and moving cans filled with soil.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed outdoors and is subject to prevailing weather conditions in a greenhouse or field environment. Subject to injury such as severe cuts, broken bones, strains and rupture. Must observe safety regulations, where applicable.
